Kyoto gosho was the residence of the Imperial family up until 1868, when the capital city was moved from Kyoto to Tokyo. The enthronement ceremonies of emperor Taisho and Showa were held here. The current emperor's was held at the Tokyo Imperial Palace. The palace complex is enclosed by a long wall and consists of several gates, halls and gardens. You must make reservations at the imperial household agency for permission to access the premises.
