Highlight
This Park is famous for the traditional "Hanami" season, which literally means "looking at flowers" When the Cherry blossom season is at its prime, many gather at the park to enjoy an afternoon picnic and gaze at the blossoming trees.

Details
Maruyama Park is at its best in early April when the cherry trees start to bloom and groups of people fill the park for cherry blossom-viewing parties. You can often see groups of people having picnics under the trees and enjoying the lovely view. There is a large old weeping cherry tree that sits in the center of the park. Its drooping branches are rich with gorgeous blossoms. In the evenings, the tree is lit up and is a breath-taking sight. Maruyama Park is the oldest park in Kyoto, much beloved by all the residents young and old. It lies next to Yasaka-jinja Shrine, at the base of Kyoto's eastern mountains, and covers an area of 86000 square meters. It contains stroll gardens, rest houses, small orchards, Japanese restaurants and much more. It is the perfect place to sit for a rest after a morning or afternoon spent touring the many sights in the Higashiyama area.
