The founder of Jodo Buddhism, Honen, lived and eventually died fasting in this temple. The oldest structure on this premises is the 2 story Entrance gate standing at 24 meters tall, which is the highest entrance gate in all of Japan built in 1619. This temple also holds a record for the largest and heaviest temple bell.. Weighing more than several city busses combined. These grand structures are a must see if your in the area. Autumn is the best time to see the Red Maples.
