Details:Kiyomizu-dera Temple displays a magnificent birds-eye view of the evening illumination of Spring cherry blossoms and the Autumn foliage at its prime seasons. With over 500 lights, every captivating Sakura tree is softly lit, displaying an impressive view of a harmonic combination of city and nature illumination. Drop by the many shops and tea houses located near the area on your way back if you have time. Many of them extend their business hours for this special event and it's definitely worth a glimpse.

Details:Kōdai-ji is another great evening cherry blossom viewing spot. With a fantastic view of the "Shidare Zakura (Sakura)", it's lit up in amazing illumination.

Castle

Nijō-jō

Details:The castle premise has about 200 cherry blossom trees planted all around the area, which will be lit up for your viewing pleasure. Along with the elegant illumination of the cherry trees, the Ninomaru palace kitchen will be showcased. You can enjoy some traditional dance performances and the decorative Ikebana (Japanese traditional flower arrangement). Visitors who are in the castle before 4:00pm will be asked to leave once for the illumination setup.

Gion Shirakawa

Details:The same view of Kyoto from centuries ago can be seen here, with the old Machiya, and tea houses lining the sides of Shirakawa River. A special "Shirakawa Sakura Matsuri" event will be held on April 1st from 1pm – 3pm. Along the river, you can see local children dipping for goldfish, brass band performances, free coffee and tea servings, Mochi pounding, lottery drawing, and more!

Maruyama Kōen

Details:Here you can enjoy 686 cherry blossoms trees around a circuit style garden. The path will take you on a beautiful garden walkway around a pond. The large "Shidare Zakura (Sakura)" tree, standing at 12 meters tall will also be in sight, lit up with a bonfire-like ray.

Details:The "Shidare Zakura (Sakura)" that stands on the east side of the Togetsukyo Bridge will be illuminated with lights and is a must see if you are in the area. The banks of the Katsura River are also lined with over 300 meters of Sakura trees.

Kyoto Botanical garden

Details:A variety of different types of cherry blossoms can be found here. With over 120,000 plants displayed inside the garden, the evening Sakura trees lit up in the darkness give off a mysterious feeling. The gathered 110 cherry blossom trees planted in the central area is the highlight of this botanical garden.

Heian-jingū

Details:Enjoy a romantic evening of illuminated cherry blossoms and a live music concert. Heian-jingū shrine is especially famous for its "Benishidare Zakura (Sakura)"and almost 300 of them will be lit up. The peaceful view of the garden and reflection of lights off the surface of the water in the pond is a fantastic combination that creates a moody atmosphere anyone can enjoy.
